Ethiopian opals are hydrophone gemstones, meaning they absorb moisture and require specialized care to maintain their fiery play-of-color and protect the gold plating:

• Keep Dry: Never wear your opal necklace while showering, swimming, bathing, or using a steam room. Water absorption can temporarily cause the opals to lose their color fire.

• Avoid Chemicals: Apply perfumes, hairsprays, cosmetics, and body lotions before putting on your necklace. Avoid exposure to hand sanitizers, harsh detergents, or commercial chemical jewelry cleaner dips, which can degrade the stone and strip the gold plating.

• Cleaning: Never clean opals in an ultrasonic cleaner or steamer. To clean safely, gently wipe the pendant and chain down with a completely dry, ultra-soft microfiber jewelry cloth to remove surface oils.

• Storage: Store the necklace in its individual soft fabric pouch. Keep it away from intense direct sunlight, high heat sources, or exceptionally dry environments to prevent the stones from dehydrating or cracking (crazing).
