Chrome Diopside is a gorgeous, untreated natural gemstone but is relatively soft, carrying a hardness ranking of 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. Because it is more susceptible to scratching or abrasion than sapphire or ruby, deliberate care must be taken to keep this statement piece looking pristine:

• The "Last On, First Off" Rule: Always apply your perfumes, hairsprays, cosmetics, and body lotions before putting on your necklace. The ingredients in daily cosmetics can form a dull film over the micro-CZ accents and cloud the crisp facets of the diopside stones.

• Always remove your necklace before swimming in chlorinated pools, relaxing in hot tubs, or handling household cleaning solutions to protect the natural gemstone structure and the bright silver polish.

• Remove the necklace before intense physical workouts, sports, or sleeping to avoid hitting the delicate prong settings or putting stress on the fine chain links.

• Avoid harsh automated cleaning: Never place this pendant inside automated ultrasonic cleaner tanks or steam machines. The micro-vibrations can loosen the small pave accent stones, and thermal shock can fracture natural diopside. Avoid commercial liquid jewelry chemical dips as well.

• To clean safely: Soak the piece briefly in room-temperature water mixed with a single drop of mild, neutral dish soap. Gently clean the front and back of the setting using an ultra-soft, clean makeup brush or microfiber cloth to lift away oils. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry immediately.

• Store the necklace flat in its own soft pouch or a separate velvet compartment of your jewelry box to ensure the chain doesn't tangle and harder gemstones cannot rub against the diopside petals.
