Peridot is an idiosyncratic gemstone with a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. While it is durable enough for regular wear, its unique composition means it is sensitive to chemical stress and thermal shock. Following these simple steps will ensure its bright green luster remains flawless:

• The "Last On, First Off" Rule: Always apply your perfumes, hairsprays, cosmetics, and body lotions before putting on your necklace. The acids and chemicals in daily grooming products can etch the surface of the peridot over time, dulling its fire and accelerating tarnish on the silver chain.

• Always remove your necklace before swimming in chlorinated pools, relaxing in hot tubs, or handling household cleaning solutions to protect the gemstone and the polished silver finish.

• Remove the necklace before intense physical workouts, sports, or sleeping to avoid accidental snags or pulling on the fine cable chain links.

• Never clean this pendant using automated ultrasonic cleaner tanks or commercial liquid jewelry dips. Prolonged exposure to high heat from steam cleaners should also be strictly avoided, as rapid temperature shifts can cause peridot to fracture internally.
