They are "hydrophane" stones, meaning they naturally absorb moisture, which can temporarily alter their appearance. Because this piece features both a sensitive gemstone and gold plating over sterling silver, specific care must be taken to preserve its beauty:

• The "Last On, First Off" Rule: Always apply your perfumes, hairsprays, cosmetics, and body lotions before putting on your necklace. The chemicals and oils in everyday grooming products can ruin the opal's play-of-color and degrade the gold plating.

• Keep Away from Water: Always remove your necklace before showering, swimming, relaxing in hot tubs, or handling household cleaning solutions. Exposure to water, detergents, or heavy humidity can cause the opal to lose its fire and turn temporarily milky or clear.
